01About the author
Yanni B. Andrea
Me, unfiltered

I write the love stories I never saw on the shelf.

I'm Yanni B. Andrea — Florida-born, raised on humidity, church fans, and late nights with a notebook I hid under the mattress. I write New Adult fiction about Black love, identity, and the messy stretch of years where you're grown but not finished.

My stories live in the space between wanting and knowing better. Forbidden. Tender. Loud. I don't write clean arcs because I've never lived one — my characters make bad decisions with their whole chest and then have to sit in it.

If you've ever wanted to see yourself on the page — desired, complicated, fully human — pull up a chair. This is home.

02The vision / mood board

The world behind Bare in Sight.

This isn't just a mood board. It's the atmosphere I wrote from. FAMU, early 2000s — Y2K nostalgia, forbidden love, faith cracking open, bodies being seen for the first time. Bare in Sight is a collage of experiences, exactly like the mood board built for this story.

Meet Simone Carter

Who she is

Simone came to FAMU at sixteen — sheltered, homeschooled, raised by strict, church-going parents who pulled her out of public school over what she was being taught. She arrived with a curfew, a Bible verse for every situation, and a plan: valedictorian, student body president, the girl every freshman wanted to be. On paper, she becomes exactly that. Underneath it, she's still figuring out who she is without her parents' rules deciding for her.

Her arc

Simone spends the book unlearning the version of herself she built to be good — the one who followed every rule, kept every secret, and stayed perfect so no one had a reason to worry about her. Between a forbidden relationship with her professor, modeling nude for the first time, and a friend group that pulls her further from who she was raised to be, Simone learns that being seen — really seen — isn't the same as being caught. And that the life she was told to want isn't the one she actually does.

"I wasn't hiding. I was waiting for somebody brave enough to look."
